Why Whitestown, IN is a Great Place to Live

Whitestown, Indiana is a town that is experiencing rapid growth in many different areas. My wife and I bought our home here in 2021. We truly couldn’t be more happy with how things are trending for the city. To be fair, I would take a better experience at an unnamed wing joint, but that’s a post for a whole different day. Anyway, let’s look at some of the reasons why Whitestown is becoming a popular suburb of Indianapolis. We’ll also see how the real estate market has fared over the years.

Population Growth

Depending on where you look, Whitestown will regularly be near the top of “fastest growing cities in Indiana“. In 2010, it had just a population of 2,867. In 2022 it’s somewhere near 12,000! Just 12 years and a 318% increase in population.

One of the main drivers of this population growth is the town’s strong economy. Whitestown has attracted a number of major employers in recent years, including Amazon, Dick’s Sporting Goods, FedEx, Walmart, Shein and many many others. These companies have brought in a large number of jobs, leading to an influx of new residents to the area.

Another factor contributing to the growth of Whitestown’s population is the town’s proximity to Indianapolis and major highways. Located just a short drive from the state capital, Whitestown offers residents easy access to all the amenities and opportunities of a major city, while still maintaining a small-town feel. This is a big reason why so many large warehouse employers are opening up shop here as there is quick access to Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Nashville and Louisville.

In addition, the town’s growing population has also led to an increase in the number of housing options available. From single-family homes to apartments and condos, Whitestown has something for everyone. The town has also seen a lot of new construction. New homes and apartments are being built for an excellent place for families and individuals to find their dream home. Prices in Whitestown have gone up 108.41% since 2015. This is the second highest growth from any Indianapolis suburb during that time frame (Noblesville took the top spot with a 130% gain going from $165,000 to $380,000). The current median sale price of $358k is the cheapest out of Carmel, Zionsville, Brownsburg, Avon, Fishers and Noblesville.

The town is also expanding in the commercial space. New shopping centers and retail stores are popping up, providing more options for shopping and entertainment for the residents. Chicken Salad Chick, Culver’s and many others have opened recently as these commercial spaces are becoming more available. Who else is excited for Hy-Vee?

Amenities

The town also has a strong focus on parks and recreation, with a number of parks and trails that offer residents a chance to enjoy the outdoors and stay active. The town also has a community center, which offers a variety of programs and activities for people of all ages. My wife and I’s favorite spot is at the Walker Farms subdivision where there’s a fantastic area called Main Street Park which has many different activities including pickleball, basketball and cornhole. Some other popular events include Hickory Hall Club Polo, Viking Fest, Hops & Hounds, Summer Concert Series and the Whitestown Brew Fest

Whitestown’s rapid population growth is a clear indication that it is a town on the rise. With a strong economy, proximity to Indianapolis, and a variety of housing and recreational options, it’s not hard to see why so many people are choosing to call Whitestown home.
